Housing, the first obstacle to mobility

With Paris rental supply down 67% since 2021 according to SeLoger, an employee arriving in Paris can spend weeks searching, often remotely and during their probation period. For the company, that means a delayed start and a risk of early resignation.

Building the right timeline

  • 6 to 4 weeks before: defining the need (budget, size, areas, commute) and preparing the application.
  • 4 to 1 weeks before: search, viewings (in person or delegated), application, signing.
  • Arrival: check-in inventory, energy and internet contracts, moving in.

A strong application is decisive, especially for an employee on probation or returning from abroad: see our articles on renting during a probation period and on returning from abroad.

The right lease for the length of stay

For an assignment of a few months, the bail mobilité (1 to 10 months, furnished, no security deposit) is often the best option. For a lasting move, choose a standard furnished or unfurnished lease. In the case of a job transfer, the employee's notice period on their previous home is reduced to one month.

What the employer can cover

  • Professional relocation costs (temporary accommodation, settling-in costs, removal) can be reimbursed within the limits set by Urssaf and the BOSS, updated every year.
  • Housing provided by the employer is a benefit in kind, valued at a flat rate or at rental value. For 2026, the flat-rate scale ranges from €79.70 a month (salary under €2,002.50 gross, one-room home) to €212.30 per main room for the highest salaries.
  • For the employee, dual-residence costs can be deducted as actual expenses from income tax when justified.

These rules change every year: have the amounts confirmed by your payroll team or accountant.

Entrusting the search to a rental search expert gives the employee a single point of contact, viewings carried out on their behalf and a home ready on arrival. With our Rubis plan, we go all the way to moving in: check-in inventory, first cleaning, movers at a negotiated rate and setting up contracts.
